I have an older Intel D865GBF motherboard. I appreciate hearing from anyone who has suggestions for a video card fit that may have been top of the line during this mobo's initial offering in 2003. The PC was built from Newegg parts that year and is still running Windows XP with 1GB (2X512 MB) ram.

    Thank you,
    Erik

buggabear, for the world of it, I couldn't remember the Radeon Series #. That's what I was looking for. At the time the 9600 series cards were +/- $500. Thanks.

The board supports a PCI slot and an AGP 8x slot. So your best bet would be to get an AGP 8x video card

You have quite a large selection of AGP 8x cards to choose from here:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...E&N=2010380048 1069609639&bop=And&Order=PRICE

    Either ATI or Nvidia

You could get one for your PCI slot:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...E&N=2010380048 1069609642&bop=And&Order=PRICE

But I beleive the AGP 8x would be more efficient than the PCI version. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

But since both of these (AGP 8x and PCI) are older interfaces, I wouldn't recommend spending much money on one of these. :-o

Using Mickey's link above for the AGP cards, I'd say you're best bet is one of the ATI cards, the 3850 or 3650, or the 2600, or the x1650 if money is a concern. I remember when the x1650s first came out and I was blown away by their performance. The NVidia cards listed at Newegg in AGP are all fairly weak IMO. On the other hand, you could save your money for another 6 months and get a new mobo, CPU, and possibly a PCIe video card which would blow away any of those AGP cards!
    :-D

I just got my Sapphire HD 3650 from NewEgg, and have to return it.

I have spent 2 days trying to install it, using various driver downloads from both Sapphire and ATI/AMD, even hooked up a spare PSU to some of my devices.

Sapphire support told me that all I needed to do was uninstall the old drivers and then install their hotfix, and everything would work correctly (even stated that he had just tried them yesterday and they worked fine.). I tried this multiple times, trying with and without Catalyst Control Center, but still had no luck. My Radeon 9250 is now back in the system until I can find something better for around $80.
