I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and I have installed Vista. I would like to use the Windoes DVD maker but I get a pop up telling my that my video card is not suitable for the program to work. My video card is:

Mobile Intel (R) 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - XDDM)

Is there a solution for this problem. Maybe some software. I posted this in hardware because it seems to be a hardware problem initially. I have 2 gig ram and 160 hdd. I was quite excited to see the DVD maker so you can imagine how disappointed I was that it wouldn't open due to the video card problem.

What you have listed is not your video but your motherboard chipset. Nonetheless, if you are getting this error then your video card just does not have enough memory or processing power to work with DVD Maker. There is no way around the problem, sorry.

It looks like your laptop is right on the edge of whether or not it would work.

I guess it depends on whether or not you have the lastest driver.

This says the requirements are DirectX9 and Vista drivers.

This page about Intel video chipsets says at the bottom that your chipset can work for Vista Aero. And this one says it supports up to DirectX9.

So I would use the Intel Update Program to see if it can find a better driver for your video chip before giving up completely.

Note: I am not good with working with drivers so other than the above I can't be of much help.

sach2's suggestion in going for the Intel drivers is your best chance, MS stock drivers allow little more than Windows Aero to run correctly.

Thanks for that great advice and I will go ahead and try them. I'll get back and tell you how it went.

I have also got problems with installing and using msn messenger. I will post that in software later. This is all since upgrading to Vista. Maybe I should buy Window 7 but that's another query.

I thought my lovely Inspiron was so cool. It looks like nothing stays cool for long huh? Bandwagon an all that!
