Hey folks, I'm currently running my computer in safe mode with networking atm to try and get some assistance with my computer.

I've been having a problem with my computer, where my computer will black out normally after a movement of the mouse or sometimes just after clicking the login icon for my account. The computer will blackout and the monitor will appear to go into powersave and the power button will blink on it. After restarting and listening to the BIOS error codes (AMI I'm sure) It appears to be the Video card, I've had the tower opened and taken a look at it, pulled it out of the seat, cleaned it and put it back in but to no solving the problem, however I can run the computer perfectly in safe mode and theres no signs of the problem which appear in normal mode, I was wondering if there would be any steps I could take to running the computer in normal mode but not allowing the problem I've been having to take effect, perhaps disabling certain processes which may trigger the problem, the computer isn't used for much more nowadays than msn, browsing net, music, and runescape at times lol. anyways and I've had it for a good few years, and looking to buy a new one, but just need this one to survive long enough for me to be able to do the usual stuff before i upgrade.

Any solutions people know of from past experience or general knowledge on such problems, would be much appreciated. Will stick around to give any more info that may be needed to help with the problem.

    Cheers.

Go into device manager and look for ! or X or ? next to the video card ...also, do you have onboard video?

Have you tried reinstalling the latest driver from the manufacturers website?? Obviously you can get into safe mode w/networking, so try downloading the latest driver and uninstall the old driver, and reinstall with the new driver, and if it starts normally after doing that...then obviously it is a driver problem, and it is now fixed.

Well i had a look at the drivers, that didn't sort the problem, however after a little look with device manager and turning the card adapter off, the problem seems to have gone so well obviously the card has seen its end, screens gone back to a 800x600 res but doesn't matter too much to me as long as i can do the usual stuff. Much appreciated for the people who responded to my problem, its only a temporary solution till i get a new computer so will suffice.

    Cheers.

basically you're working in your video's "safe mode" defininely sounds like a driver issue now....well, actually not really, still could be a hardware issue.
