I have an older model Panasonic Palmcorder (VHSC) PV-L657 and I want to transfer my video from the camcorder to my computer, but I don't think I can unless I have a video card equipped with analog inputs. Can anyone tell me how to check my computer to see if I do? My computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 series. If I do have a video card equipped with analog inputs, how do I transfer the video? And if don't have a video card equipped with analog inputs then how can I get this video from my camcorder to the computer??? Please help!!

Does the Dell have VIVO, if so then you can if not then you can't. Your best bet is to pick up a TV card from Bestbuy.

I doubt you have the ability to input analog video directly using the video card in the Dimension 2400. What card do you have?

You should check with Canopus, they make [as do many others] a converter that allows you to convert analog composit or SVHS video and import it over firewire. I believe if you purchase the ADC110 it comes with quick edit an application that enables you to capture.

Is VIVO short for Video In/Video Out? And about how much is a TV Thunder Card? Any idea?

i think he meant TV tuner card, not TV "tunder" card lol. And yes, VIOV does stand for video in/video out

Some video cards DO come with video capture capabilities, but you don't have to replace the video card. What you need is a video capture card, like one of these:

Pinnacle makes good ones. Their basic one for 80 bucks will do what you want. There are also some that sit outside the computer and hook up via USB port, but they generally cost more, and adding a card inside your computer is easy, as long as you have a free PCI slot. The included software is enough to convert your stuff to watchable DVD, but there is all kinds of digital video editing software if you want to get really artistic.
