Well, video card seems to be going. Monitor has background shadows and screen suddenly has a pink hue to it. Plugged monitor in to different pc and monitor was fine so I'm guessing video card. Had decided to buy new PC. Mine is actually glorified typewriter I'm told . But life came up and cannot afford to do much now. What information do I need to know about my computer in order to purchase new video card? And do I have to spend a bundle? Don't want to waste too much money on this dinosaur. Thanking in advance for advice...

what kind of computer is it? Please post as much about the kind (model number if its a big name) so we can give you the best info possible :)

If it has a video card (as opposed to integrated video on the motherboard), you can try to reseat the card, as sometimes dust and junk can hinder the performance of the card.

Otherwise, you should be able to get a very cheap graphics card if you dont intend to do gaming on that machine. I cant give you specifics until I know more about what you have :)

Here's some stats on the computer:

CPU Type Intel Pentium IIIE, 900 MHz (9 x 100)
    Motherboard Name Asus Pegasus
Motherboard Chipset VIA VT82C694X Apollo Pro133A
    System Memory 256 MB (SDRAM)
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
    DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
Video Adapter NVIDIA Vanta (HP) (16 MB)
    3D Accelerator nVIDIA Vanta
Monitor Plug and Play Monitor [NoDB] (40904275PV 01)
    Motherboard Properties:
    Manufacturer ASUSTeK Computer INC.
    Product PEGASUS
    Processor Properties:
    Manufacturer genuine intel
    Version Intel Pentium III Processor
    External Clock 100 MHz
    Current Clock 900 MHz

System is an HP 8766C. No gaming here, not yet at least. Will leave that for the new PC. But would love to view colors without the pink tinting.

    Thanks for taking a glance!

I'm 90% sure that you're running an AGP card. You should be able to pick up a used one for under $20 (for 32mb or 64mb). Check eBay or your local used PC shop or independent PC shop....

Oh good, thanks... I went to best buy and the kid there told me I would have to spend $100.00 at least. Didn't want to put that kind of cash into this thing. Thanks again!
