Not sure if this even belongs on this site but here it goes. I have a 24 episode anime with each ep ranging from 220MB-260MB In order to fit this on a CD i want to compress them down to about 180MB per episode. The files are .avi. Does anybody know of a program that can compress .avi files to a specific size? I would really appricate it, there are way to many video compressors on the internet and i cant find one that meets my needs.

Most of the AVI compression utilities that I've seen out there out there on the web can compress, decompress and recompress, etc. however I think you'll have a hard time finding one that will allow you to pick and choose the compression of .avi files to a "specific size."

Using VirtualDub is quite easy-to-use and might be worth a look-see; although I’m not sure about it working well with the .avi file sizes you are talking about. VirtualDub is licensed under the GNU General Public License, meaning you can use it for free. Among VirtualDub’s many useful features is the ability to decompress and recompress both audio and video. To create compressed versions of the AVI using VirtualDub follow these steps:

    (1) Start VirtualDub
    (2) Select File => Open and choose the AVI in the Fraps directory you wish to compress.
    (3) Select Video => Compression and choose the codec you wish to compress with (usually divx)
    (4) Select File => Save As AVI and specify a filename for the new AVI.

If you have Windows XP you can also use Windows Movie Maker to compress the video files. If you use Windows Movie Maker it's recommended that you keep your Fraps video files at 800x600 or under.

Additional Note: I’ve heard good things in various forums about a shareware program called VideoMach that is primarily an audio/video builder and converter which claims the ability to rotate, resize and crop videos to the desired size; however I’ve never actually used it so I can’t really vouch for how well it works. VideoMach supports all popular audio and video formats, including AVI, FLIC, MPEG and HAV. It's not free, I think it costs around 30 bucks, but it might be worth a look. ;)

    Good Luck!

I tried VirtualDub and i get a VBR waarning (see attached image), a 19,000ms delay would be rather noticable, I downloaded VideoMach and will test that out tommorow, its 3:30am I needs sleep,

Edit: Do I just decompress the video file and it would be fine, or will it be screwed up, guess there is only one way to find out, Also by CD i meant DVD lol
