Is there a brand name on the webcam or any other markings or numbers, do they remember the brand or model name from when purchased or was it part of a PC bundle if so whats the PCs brand and model name?

You could use Device Manager and once the device is plugged in, likely there will be a yellow ! mark by a USB device, from there they could see if Microsoft will update the driver, or click Update Driver and allow Vista to search for one. Likely it may not name it though, apart from Unknown Device.


Also try installing Everest http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and check Devices > USB Devices for any listing of the Webcam.

System Informations listing may list this device, just click the Start button and in the Start Search box type system information and it will be listed in the search, click it to load system informations module


If the webcam is old and an unbranded one, there may not be drivers for it for Vista sadly.
