Not an expert on subject. Just kinda need to know, but searched all over web and seems xvid & avisynth (no Dr.DivX x64?) were only tools I could find on x64 which was kinda suprice since multi-tasking encoding is a lot faster specially when speaking of 4-8 threating.

Just wondering here since seems every tool in a row I test uses 25% of true quad-core power ('50% on dual-core', anyhow full processor 01) is there any software existing today which could multi-threat that split source to amount of processors and set affinities? Since that seems to work just fine as far I tested it. Dunno even if 64-bits is needed nor faster than that, but sure is hard to find working solution.

So anyone here who could direct me to correct path?

If an application is single threaded, there is no way to run it as a multithreaded application without it being rewritten, and recompiled, afaik. However, setting affinities can be done via task manager of any OS Windows XP+.

Another option would be to use CPU-control.

By the way, Xvid 1.2 is supposed to be multithreaded.

Unfortunately aside from googling it, I cannot find an offical download link, so I will leave that up to you and google. I don't want to post any questionable software links without knowing whats at the other end. The latest Xvid release does not contain SMP support.

I know how affinities are handled.. and just for the cause check out 'process Lasso' and you'll get much easier and just for the notest I think I mentioned that xvid was x64 even on my post.

Now, question was is there software which does do multi-threading? either x64 or x86 (dual)?

Found also LAME on x64 for MS and intel versions. Tho isn't some private build and says multi-threading not choosed when used with AutoGK, but well that still will help when modded a bit.

You arent being very clear in your posts.

What specifically are you looking for? Just general multi-threaded applications? Or specific encoding ones?

If you are looking for specific encoding apps to be multithreaded, which kind are you looking for?

For example, DVD Shrink, despite its age, is multi-threaded. So is 7zip.

I am still confused here, but if you are looking for an app that can adjust your affinities with multithreaded apps, then the app I listed should do that. If you are looking for something that will max all cores...well, thats up to the app and how its been written, unless there is a method of tweaking it within its options or via command line like Xvid. For example, 7 zip, while being multi-threaded gives me about 65-70 cpu usage total. Howver, DVD Shrink, when encoding, pegs it at 100 percent across the board.

I think its important to note that a multi-threaded app does not mean it will equally peg every core, it simply means that the application will hand off parts to both cores. That doesn't mean it will be the same thing handed off to both cores. Thats up to the developer. For example, in multithreaded games, the AI may be handed off to one core, and the rest handled by the other core. So it only makes sense that you will see one core working harder than another in many cases.
