I have this old POS dell dimension 2300 and for some reason it only seems to boot in safe mode. It was workin for a while at school on a different monitor and as soon as i brought it home using a diff monitor it bsod's immediatly after windows is done booting, before u get to the home screen. ive formated, and reinstalled drivers and nothing works

my theory is that either, theres somthing wrong with the video drivers that i got directly from dell (unlikely), theres somthing wrong with this monitor that it doesnt like higher resolutions, or that my video card is dying/dead.

The monitor works sketchy with another tower except that you can see obvious rows of video feed fuzzing and vibrating, cant really describe the error any better. when u turn the res all the way up theres a big black rift in the middle of the screen

    Hi

Do you have a compatible Video card to the motherboards socket you can try as a test to see if it works ok, this could rule in or out the video card as the culprit?

But from your last sentence seems if the the monitor doesnt like high resolutions, whats it like at 800x600?

What type of monitor CRT or LCD?
Whats the Video card make and model or is it onboard video?

the only other video card i have is a 7600gt and its pcie, im pretty sure this doesnt have any pcie ports but ill double check.

while the monitor is hooked up to the other computer it works ok at 800x600 but has that wierd glitch i cant really describe. it gets the rift in the picture at 1028x1024, or whatever that resolution is thats 1028xsomthin, not wide screen.

the monitor im workin with is an lcd, at school i had a crt

the video card in the machine is the onboard that came with the dell
