i've tried everything i know how to do, so it's time to ask the experts
i've got a recently downloaded video file sitting on my computer that will not delete. i can't get rid of it, i can't view it, i can't move it. It says it's being used by another process, but for the life of me i can't figure out what.

the downloading of this file seems to have coincided with my computer suddenlty being painfully slow as soon as i open windows media player (though when look at the processes under task manager, it's windows explorer that's using up all the juice)

    anyone got any helpful suggestions?
    i'd appreciate it.
    thanks.

get yourself Gipo's MoveONBoot ( freebie ) as this once you have browsed or dragged and dropped the file into the window it will on reboot remove the offending locked file.

    Info on program

    Download

you can sometimes remove via booting into safe mode.

    EDIT:
*Never mind, Halo seems to have a better solution, but mine's here if his doesn't work.*

I had this problem once with a file on my desktop, and here's what I can suggest. Try booting into safe mode to delete it, but if that doesn't work, you can try searching the registry for the filename. I had to use the latter method when a folder wouldn't delete from the desktop. For some reason, a program I had used to open it had placed a registry key that was keeping it from being deleted.

Hey no mate, your registry suggestion is a very good and valid option.

i tried the first suggestion, (cause it sounded much much simpler to my non-techie brain) and it worked perfectly.
thanks for the help, it saved me alot of frustration
