Video screen capture

I wanna capture whats on my screen in a mpeg or avi video for a project. Im looking for a freeware app to let me do this..

Anyone got any ideas?

 

My frind has a vary nice screen capture program. I dont know what it is but he seid he downloaded it free someware. He whont be online till late but ill find out what it is and whare he got it.

Fraps is what my frind uses. http://www.fraps.com/ . sorry im late.

 

I think fraps only works with directx games or something. The latest version of it aint free thougt.
