I posted this problem some time ago. I still have not found an answer, but I found a clue that may help someone find my problem. When I try to plsy a video or clip from the net, I get a crash, sometimes just the browser and sometimes complete crash and reboot. I have sent Firefox several reports, but no answer. The clue that I have noticed is that just before the crash, something disconnects me from the net. I would appreciate it if someone could give me some help. Thanks in advance.

    Hi

What Windows version and is it upto date?

Also if you have a crash is their any error message and code, also look in Event Viewer for any errors at the time of these crashes as they may hold a clue as to what application or file is causing this.

Have you tried IE to see if this happens?

Some likely causes are as the online videos are normally in Flash format is to update Adobe Flash.

Thanks for answering my post. There is no error message, no warning. If just the browser crashes, there is a error form to send FF which I have done several times. I have installed the latest versions of Adobe Flash and Java. I tried IE and it is the same. One thing that I haven't tried is the Event viewer. Is this the same viewer that checks Memory and what do I look for? I seem to have plenty of Memory. If I could find the cause of losing my connection, I may solve the problem. I run Windows XP SP 3 and I keep my updates current.
    Thanks again,

the reason you are not getting a reply from the folks at mozilla is that it isnt thier problem. The problem, IMO, is the video codecs you have installed on your computer. Go into add/remove programs and uninstall anything and everything that is codec related of video editting related.

Then, if, and only if the problem is solved, install codecs known to work.
I suggest (and author) the Vista Codec Package http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5326 which is 100% compatible with XP.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not familiar with codecs, so could you tell me just what to look for and when installing your package, do they automatic install or do I download them into my "downloads" folder and install them like other programs. I realize that this may sound crazy, but want to make sure that I know what I'm doing before I start. Thanks again. BTW, My DVDs play just fine.Do they use the same codec?

1st of all, you need to solve the issue at hand.
2ndly, i am just guessing from a million computers away, but i know codecs.
I know they could easily be the cause of the crashes you describe.

so, without causing any harm EXCEPT for possibly, temporily, breaking DVD playback because the 1st thing you need to do is to uninstall anything codec related.

Open add/remove programs in Contrlo Panel
if you see any these , or variations of these , uninstall them
    Nero
    PowerDVD
    DivX
    Xvid
    K-Lite
    CCCP Combined Community...
    Matroska Splitter
codec <-- anywhere in the name

start with that .. lets see if the crash goes away.

Shark, In "Add and Remove Programs", I only found "Nero" and "Nero Burnrights"
I uninstalled "Nero", but when I tried to uninstall "Nerorights", "Spyware Doctor"
brought up a message box which said,"Nero Web Engine Applacation,
"This programs attempting to copy itself to multiple locations on your computer"
"We reccomend you Quarantine this action". There were two choices, Quarantine and Allow. I Quarantined it. I tried to play a clip and it crashed so that didn't solve the problem. I checked the list of programs and am certain that these were the only ones that you mentioned as codec related. What do I do with the quarantined Nerorights and how do I get Nero back. I don't have a disc to reinstall it. Thanks for trying. Anymore ideas?

nero can be had from nero.com
your PC is obviously infected with spyware - this isnt my area of expertise.
Majorgeeks does have a forum section dedicated to solving these issues
I suggest you head there next. Ill check back here from time to time to see how you're doing.

Shark007, don't jump to the conclusion that the OP is infected with spyware. Nero Burnrights is part of Nero
    http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero6-tools-utilities.html
scroll down and you will see NeroBurnrights on the Nero site
    http://visibleprocrastinations.wordpress.com/2008/03/26/nero-burnrights/

This may well be a false positive from Spyware Doctor based on how NeroBurnrights works.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and see if anything labeled Nero is running. If so try and end the process.
On the Nero site, my first link, there is a NeroCleanTool. Download that and see if that removes all traces of Nero from your computer.
