    hello
I am just starting this project and have read quite a bit. I think if anyone replies I will need to supply statistics
which I am not aware of now.
I have videos I can play on my PC. They are from my Galaxy S5 and my Canon Power Shot.
I know a person used to use one or 2 authoring programs like Flick but there seems to be a lot of programs on the web now. How do I begin so ultimately I can view my videos on my TV.
My Sony TV is about 2 years old but my DVD player is an older Sony and plays one format.
Do I need a new DVD player or do newer programs get around that by including all formats?
    Thank you
    Peter

Buying a new DVD player will probably not help as there are hundreds of video & audio formats.
Also, the format of the video you can play on your PC, is actually a container format because it contains video and audio. As an example, and depending on the video creation software, two AVI videos could have been made with different video and audio codecs. And the DVD player might support the video format, but not the audio format, or vice versa.

Download MediaInfo Lite - it will tell you what video & audio codecs were used to create the video. Then we can hopefully recommend a suitable software program.

I just looked at the old manual and the DVD player plays MPEG 2 for pictures but I could not find sound.
I used a random DVD for the program to analyze; two cameras were involved in the videos. I cannot distinguish between them and I did not think to label which camera took the video. I guess I would likely run the video on hand though the program to see what information there is about it as I go through the stack.
