for this issue i suspect the file is just corrupt and not playable but i have a few seasons of South Park i got off of DC++ on my campus. THey come in various file types each episode, some mpg, some avi, some wmv. Now typically i use VLC to play videos and ive never encoutered a problem. Now the sound works but the video doesnt and usually if a file is "broken" VLC prompts me and asks if i want to fix but its not working. I also tried winamp and WMP to play it but to no avail. I also downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack Standard 3.10 and it asked me what i wanted to do with broken codecs, i removed them, and still nothings working.

I wanted to see if theres anyway of fixing before deleting the videos. Thanks

If VLC won't play them there probably isn't much hope. If they are in different formats not sure that it is a codec issue. But that said; you may want to try downloading GOMplayer. It has a feature that will prompt to download the specific codec needed to play a file. That would at least tell you if you are missing a necessary codec or if the file is broken.

No, you shouldn't delete any videos before making sure they're corrupt, which is not that common, they're not exe files to be so sensitive...

Anyway, try playing them on other machines, if it works, then you have something wrong in your codecs.

I suggest downloading K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (I don't know the current version, but I have 1.38, 1.53, and 1.59)

This will install a huge number of codecs that will play almost any video file (including 3gp)

    ;)

I still believe installing those mega-codec packs is one of the worst things to do as you have little control of how they are used (and which ones take priority over others). Install a codec as/when you need it.

Uninstall codec pack, reboot, run video through Gspot, analyze and see if it plays through Gspot. Note of any red warnings.

Also when playing back in VLC, check the messages for errors.

did what you said elbiatcho. Nothing has changed. No warnings or errors from gspot or vlc. Yet through testing the video still doesnt play but the audio does.

    any other ideas?confused

Ok, so when you tried to render the video through Gspot (by clicking the numbers on bottom left) and it failed, there should've been some red warnings in Gspot's log window.
