do you have viewpoint media player, or toolbar? or other software from viewpoint? look in your add/remove programs. it's probably safe to remove (add/remove programs). if in doubt, post more info. - sos

    Sosaman:
it would appear i do have Viewpoint Media installed ...
grrr! looks like AOHell put it on my pc.
since i only use aim every once in a while...
why does it constently need to run in background? :boxing
i wonder if there is a way to turn it off so that its only running when im actually using aim messenger.
    hmmmmm.... :confused

Thanx for helping me resolve this issue.

Yep...AOL installs it when you install AIM.

You can safely remove it. Your AIM will still work. In fact, I would encourage you to remove it. :)

    You go into add/remove

Veiwpoint should be listed in there separate from aim. You should be able to uninstall it that way.

Just an fyi if either of you are interested, Pidgin and Trillian are great alternatives to having AIM installed on your computer. AIM uses much more resources than either. Both support AIM so as long as you have an AIM user id and password, you just enter those in and use them like you would aim.

    Whew LauraR

it wasnt so simple... the thing reinstalls if you just got to add/remove

in case someone else is suffering as well .. i had to...
    1. tsk mngr - end process; ViewpointService.exe, ViewMgr.exe
    2. run - service.msc - disable
    3. add/remove - Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player
    4. delete the folders - ViewManager, Viewpoint
    5. reboot

    *sigh* finally...
    IM FREE!!

Thanks for the help... its always appreciated.

hmm, i had no problem, but i guess (well, i know) mine wasn't running in the background. i use winpatrol (link below) to monitor my startup items.

also, if you have ccleaner, i'd recommend running that as well, and running the registry cleaner (saving a copy of the registry 1st, before you edit it). - sos
