Virtual Memory Low

Hello,
I was getting help from Chaslang, who did an excellent job, in the Malware forum. He suggested that for Low Virtual Memory I give the software forum and try.

I'm using XP Pro. I've already gone into Performance Options>Virtual Memory and I clicked on "System Managed Size." But when I return, It automatically reverts back to Custom Size (Initial 700mb, Maximum 768mb). Atleast now, I'm not having as many issues with virtual memory as I had before, but it's still abnormally high.

Just for reference, I have an Intel Pentium 3, 551 Mhz, 256 MB of Ram.

When you click for system managed size, to keep it click on the set button, before exiting, and it will 'set' to system size.

 

I just changed this. Would this be all I would need to do?
I figured there must be something else necessary to fix, since the computer shouldn't be having low virtual memory issues randomly.

Also, check to see how many processes you have running at startup. Trim down the list to just those that are needed, including your AV, Anti-Spyware, Firewall, and any Video or Audio that may show up there. Anything you can start when needed, remove from the list.
You have a pretty low amount of RAM, so Windows will use more Virtual Memory. Upgrading to at least 512 MB, would help. A full GB would do wonders for your system.

 

Thanks for these replies. I just figured there was a similar process in the software forum as in the malware forum, where I would go through some steps and if it wasn't fixed I could paste a log. The previous suggestions are helpful, but I've already tried going through them with no success.
