    Hello folks,

I have contracted Virtumonde and no telling what else. In a desperate search for a solution I discovered Major Geeks and after reading some of the threads, am sure I have come to the right place.
AVG, Spy Sweeper, Spybot S&D and AdAware will locate it, supposedly remove it, and then it comes right back. I have visited the "Read and Run me first" post, followed all the "tune up" tips plus downloaded and ran all the suggested downloads as per the posted instructions(I'm pretty sure) and have included three of the logs with this post. The "MGlogs.zip" file is on deck should anyone have any need to view it as well. Can someone please tell me if all looks well? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    P.S.
I think it's only fair that I warn you...I am not by far the most computer literate.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Yes that is why we asked for it in the instructions. ;) Without it we cannot continue.

Sorry, I thought I read in the forum rules that two postings in a row were not permitted. I must be mistaken. Here is the MGlogs.zip file.

No! Posting of inline logs rather than attachments is not permitted. Also only three attachments per message are allowed but as stated in the READ & RUN ME, you just use 2 messages to attach four logs. ;)

Did you knowingly install SideStepIE Toolbar? This program falls into the debateable category of is it or isn't it malware.

Is your copy of Spy Sweeper a paid version that actually fixes problems? Is it only the antispyware program or is it also an antivirus?

Side step was knowingly installed but I can remove it. Spy Sweeper is the paid anti-spyware only version.

It's up to you what you want to do with it.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below software as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME:[/B
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 8
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    Java(TM) 6 Update 4
    Java(TM) 6 Update 5
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
    Viewpoint Media Player

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: {c37cbf63-a261-372b-e784-0177df2e473d} - {d374e2fd-7710-487e-b273-162a36fbc73c} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\umwhuv.dll (file missing)
    O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe

NOTE: HJT may popup an error about the Services line. Ignore it and continue.

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Do I run a analysis on both windows and applications? Do you also want me to scan the registry?

Only what we specified in the READ & RUN ME to clean out temp files. See step 1 of the READ & RUN ME.

    Ok, fixme.reg was successful.

Here are the logs you requested.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combo-fix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
