   I found the virtumonde.dll on my system, spybot refused to scan past it and the vundo tool did not find it, its time the machine had a complete reinstall anyway because there is a lot of junk on the drive, its no big deal but:
   
   will reinstalling xp on a reformatted HDD, and sys c: applied to the C: drive remove the virtumonde problem?

   thats a re install of xp from scratch, not a repair or fix install.

   A complete reformat and new install will remove all traces of everything on the drive....the only way to get re-infected would be by either installing from infected media or getting on the web.
