    Hi there,

I've got a problem with my laptop, and it seems to be that I am infected with the Virtumonde virus. First of all, let me say that I am not very technically advanced so do excuse me if I don't use the correct terms or need things explaining to me a lot.

I have Norton 360 installed and it is up-to-date and working fine, yet it didn't see any problems when I ran a scan.

I first noticed the problem when my Firefox browser wouldn't load certain pages (ie gmail, facebook...pretty random. It loaded up some other pages just fine). I also could not load internet explorer in any way. I click the IE icon and nothing happens at all. Also, I had reccuring "windows has stopped working and will check for a resolution" dialogue boxes come up, where it could close any windows boxes that I was viewing (ie My Documents) and generally cause my laptop to act slow. I also seem to be getting internet popups, even though my Norton has a pop-up blocker.

I have got Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy installed. Search and Destroy finds the Virtumonde file when I do a scan. I click "fix this problem", and it says it has, but on running a further scan, it comes up again. I have downloaded and ran the Vundofix.exe program and it did not find anything. Adaware scans and finds a few problems, and I click "fix", but again I am not confident that it has fully done this.

I tried to restore my laptop to an earlier date in time but I am running Vista and it only seems to let me go back to a certain event - ie the last Windows Update - not ANY date in the calendar.

I am currently in safe mode and running Search and Destroy again, but seem to be having the same results. This time it says there are no threats but my laptop is still acting slowly and strangely.

I'm too scared to do anything on my laptop now! I heard that Virtumonde tracks your keystrokes etc, and I have a lot of valuable things to me on my laptop. I don't want to lose any of my documents or music etc if possible when fixing this.

If anyone needs me to give a list of my processes etc then I am sorry but I will need help on how to do that, as I never have before. All I know is that there's something on this laptop that shouldn't be and I need to get rid of it!!

If anyone can help I would be very very grateful, as I need to get this fixed as quick as I can!

    Thanks,
    Liam
