    Greetings.

Recently I was on the internet browsing. I managed to click some link that a friend sent me but it was fine. A minute later though, an ad popped up(it was apart of the website) then a moment later AVG popped up saying there was a Trojan Horse. I looked on my desktop to see if anything was there, and a random .bat file was on there, so I deleted it right before my computer restarted itself. Upon starting back up, Windows defender was able to delete the trojan, then I scanned on Spybot to find that there was "Virtumonde.sci" and "Smitfraud-C.gp" which I deleted. I'd just like to know if I did everything to get rid of these malware programs.

Did some of the scans the read and run me tutorial listed. I will upload the MGtools log ASAP.

    HI :)

    1) Please go to Add and Remove Programs and uninstall the following software as requested in the read and run me first
    • Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
    • Viewpoint Media Player
    • Ask Toolbar

    2) Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.clubpenguin.com

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    3) Delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp

    4) Now Run Ccleaner!

    5) Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

    Thanks
    Kes13!

    Hello again.

Everything was fine. Only problem that was encountered was when I tried to remove the Ask toolbar. The error said:

    "Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\AskSBar\bar\1.bin\AskSBar.dll
The specified module could not be found."

I have also attached the MGlogs. I don't know if I was suppose to delete the older MGlogs so it wouldn't cluster up with the other MGlogs.zip. If this is the case then I will do it again.

    Hi :)

Your logs are clean. With regards to the problems that occurred when attempting to uninstall the AskToolbar I would suggest you give the below a run and let me know how it goes.

    Windows Installer Clean-Up Utility

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks
    Kes13!

    Hello.

The AskToolbar entry wasn't found on the Windows Clean-Up Utility. I probably deleted some sort of key when I was first cleaning computer up after finding that malware. But everything else seems back to normal. :)
