    Running WinME OS
I did a scan with Avast! Home edition. It found viruses in five files:
    C:\_RESTORE\ARCHIVE\FS157.CAB
    " " " \FS150.CAB
    " " " \FS160.CAB
    " " " \FS136.CAB
    " " " \FS135.CAB
The C:\_RESTORE folder 'properties' lists 470 files and 5 folders.
But when I double-click the folder it shows only 4 .dat files, all relatively small files, (one is listed as only 1 byte).
How do I access the five infected files to delete them?
    Thanks much.
BTW, Avast could not delete or repair these files - access denied.
I know how to boot into safe mode.

System Restore uses protected files that AV software can't touch. Disabling System Restore will flush the saved files, and should get rid of those. If you're sure you're clean otherwise, restart Restore & snap a new restore point.

    Thanks for the response, G.T.
Disabling Restore did indeed "flush" alot of files. The C:\_Restore folder 'properties' now shows only 8 files, 5 folders.
I did a selective scan of my Windows and Program Files folders (over 50,000 files - almost a complete system scan) and no viruses found.
    Avast! is a nice utility.
Still some cleanup to do - probably a bunch of dead registry entries to weed out.

Hi Zimpal :) If it might interest you, most of us here at MG like RegSupreme for that kind of thing. You might want to give it a look. Fast and very efficent application.

Thanx BillH, I've been hangin' around MG too long NOT to have RegSupreme. :D Check it out. In that post I forgot to mention Zone Alarm and Avast!
