My AVG anti virus popped up and it said "virus found exploit " and it was one of my old excel files that had been on my computer for years. So I decided to do a whole system scan and several of my excel files are now infected with this virus. I will not let me repair only quarantine, and that moves the whole file away where then i can not get access to them. I do need these files. Any help?

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Are you using an old outdated version of Excel or is it current?
Do you have all security patches/updates from Microsoft installed (for both your Windows OS and for Microsoft Office)?

    Are you AVG definitions current?

Attach a log that shows exactly what it finds? Exploits are not always a problem. They are more frequently informational in nature and indicated security loopholes which are often due to software not being updated.

yes... current legal version of all software and up to date anti virus.. i check for updates everyday.

Not sure how to get the log into this message, it will not let me cut and paste it. what is says is the name of the file c:\documents and setting...
then under results "Virus found Expolit" and then under status "infected"

there are several files like this. Does that help?

What version? Are you running Office? If so what version?

No! I need the full path and file name.

At this point it would be best if you just followed our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
