Virus/Hacking Protection

Ok so I play a game called World of Warcraft, many of you may hate that game and many may not read past this sentence, but I do what I want, and don't care if that's the way you feel. So basically I logged in today, and went to work, came home and my account was hacked, all items/gold gone. I'm guessing it was a keylogger. So I'd like to know what would be the best protection for my computer against viruses, adware, spyware, and any other form of hacking? Though I want something that isn't hard on the memory because I used to use Norton and it was really hard on my online gaming.

Ok so other than that, I'm kinda on the verge. Anything that someone might say to deliberately tick me off, will in fact do so easily, so please don't respond unless you intend on helping me. And as always, any help is much appreciated.

 

You need a firewall, first and foremost. Many routers these days have built-in hardware firewalls. Get the model number off your router and go to the maker's web site, and read up on the specs. Or contact your ISP if they provided your router. Second, a good antispyware program and antivirus program is needed also. Many good free ones are available here. Just look thru the appropiate section in the left hand column on Major Geeks home page. I like Avira's AntiVir, Spyware Terminator, and Sygate or Zone Alarm firewall. I also use Arovax Shield and Browser Hijack Retaliator. All these are 100% free programs and can be downloaded right here, from Major Geeks. There are alot of good paid programs too.... look thru the available downloads, and pick whatever seems good to you Good luck!

PS- don't be so defensive about WoW. Lots of people play it, and I'm pretty sure that nobody cares one way or the other if you play it or not.

 

Thanks. I was in a really bad mood. Think of it this way, I worked up 3 characters pretty high, had a good deal of the virtual currency, and log on one day to find it all gone. I don't know how it'll work out, but I really didn't need anyone saying something stupid. Thanks again for helping out, I'll definitely take a look at the ones you suggested.

 

On the home page of this site you can go to through the list and find some very good programs that will help you with your problem.

ANTIVIRUS- Try using AVG free version http://majorgeeks.com/AVG_Free_Edition_d886.html, it's a very good antivirus program. And to complement the program, download a-square antivirus. http://majorgeeks.com/a-squared_a²_Free_edition_d4281.html, Don't worry these two running at the same time play nice with each other. These two programs were recommended by KIM Commando this past weekend.
FIREWALL- Zone Alarm free http://majorgeeks.com/ZoneAlarm_Free_d388.html , best on the market... in my opion. You will have to spend a little time with it though, don't get frustated.
SPYWARE- Spybot S&D http://majorgeeks.com/SpyBot-Search_&_Destroy_Tools_d2471.html be sure to download the updates http://majorgeeks.com/Spybot_Search_and_Destroy_Update_d3957.html .

If you have a NVIDIA card, nividia has a anti hacker program in it's updates. other than that Zone alarm will do the trick.
It would be a good idea to scan you system with these programs to get rid of the key loggers, trojans, and other problems your having, and this may make you gaming a little more enjoyable.
