    Hi all
    About a week ago i got my wife a new phone and whilst i was away she tried to access the net with it but it told her she needed a JAVA update before it would work so she decided to log onto my account and search and dl anything google pulled up with java (good job i love this woman). as you can imagine she was redirected all over the place and has infected the pc with some nasty virus which keeps installing more and more. I have managed to get rid of some of it with avira antivirus personal, but malwarebytes jsu gives me an error code 732 (12007,0) when i try to update it and the homepage is blocked i just get the errorr in connection page. Spybot gives me a -1 error. Superantispyware just hangs up and does nothing when i try to update.Ad-aware is also blocked and when i try to use google to search for the error codes so i can fix it myself off previous reports most of the links when i try to use them are blocked.

    Here is my HijackThis log.

    If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great

    Thanks in advance Jon

    Hi there and welcome. Although a single HJT log can reveal some malicious files/processes it does not let us take a deep enough look into your system to get you cleared up. What happened with Combofix and MGTools? Were you able to run those? If so you need to attach logs from each:

    • C:\Mglogs.zip
    • C:\combofix.txt

    Without seeing logs from those there isn't really an awful lot I can do to assist you in malware removal.

    Thanks
    Kes13!

    Thanks for posting my topic, whilst i was waiting for it to appear i ran through everything in your what to do sticky post and here are all the logs from every programme that would run. A fair few things were cleaned out but things like malwarebytes still give the same error code when i try to update and i could not dl a new copy as thier page is blocked. Spybot and ad-aware wont update iether so some little critter is hiding still.

    Thanks Jon

    Hi,

    1. We need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    Utilità di pianificazione di LiveUpdate automatico

    Folder::
    c:\program files\Symantec

    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\User\Application Data\.ABC
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\__

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecAntiVirus]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecFirewall]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    2. Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v

    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply.

    3. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix and TDSSKiller.

    4. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Thanks for that bit, all of the scans ran just fine with no problems. However something is still blocking any updates i try to do. Tried it for spybot, ad-aware and malwarebytes and all are blocked.

    Cheers Jon.

    BTW when i am done wich do you recomend as the best of all of these programmes to keep running so i can remove the rest.

    Try this:

    Now we need to use ComboFix again
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Fcopy::
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\atapi.sys | C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\atapi.sys

    Now run the below:

    GMER - running with a random name

    Are you still being redirected? Does this happen in Internet Explorer as well as Firefox?

    You could do with updating the version of firefox that you have!
    • Mozilla Firefox (1.0.6)

    Both of those now ran and yes i am still having the same problem ie goes to the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" diangnose connection page and firefox goes to "Firefox can't find the server at www.malwarebytes.org." page.

    I have updated firefox now and that gmer scan took forever.

    Thanks Jon

    Let's try this just to see if it makes any difference:

    1. Running HostXpert to Reset Default Hosts File

    Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.

    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    • It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    • Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    • click the Make Writeable? button.
    • click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program

    2. Can you now update SAS, spybot search and destroy or Malware Bytes?

    3. Is Avira able to update ok?

    4. What happens when you run a full system scan with Avira?

    I had uninstalled that one as i had to many virus pogs, put it back on now and it updated just fine and runs fine the others do not still even after running HostsXpert. Posted the log from Avira even though you didnt ask just in case it helps.

    Right then, we have spotted something that looks suspicious in your Hijack this log and want you to do the following and then report back as to how your machine is behaving.

    Yes, Avira incorrectly identified MGtools as a trojan.

    1. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    2. Try flushing your DNS cache using ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt.

    Here's how:

    3. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    4. Now are you able to update Spybot S&D, MBAM and adaware?

    Thanks
    Kes13!

    Use Windows Explorer to locate and delete the following bold file:
    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
