Virus in XP Restore Points

There is a virus in my previous restore points, Norton can't see them but they are there. How can I get rid of it?

 

turn off system restore and then rescan your system. By turning off system restore, ALL restore points will be DELETED! and thus the virus will be deleted as well.

 

The system restore is already off....but it still thinks they are there. The system console logs is where I see it. I'm running ad-aware right now because I can't think if it has ever been and there are 37 running processes but 1851 process modules running- what on earth is that all about?

 

You still have a virus or trojan, something.

Try doing normal Ad-aware, Spybot, safe mode virus scan etc.

 

I did ad-aware, that's how I saw it. I also ran it in safe mode as well as the newest stinger. Nothing found.

 

Try setting Norton to do a boot-time scan, if it's an option.

 

It's easy to miss that one must check the system restore box to disable it. Are you sure system restore is turned off?

 

Yes, I did that and I deleted the restore points in disk cleanup too....I ran spybot and it fixed a few things but I'm still showing 1476 process modules in ad-aware- what are those exactly.
