Virus problems

Well the background is this: My computer started running slooooooooow a couple days ago. I scanned it with Avast!, SAS, Spybot and MB. They picked up nothing. Slowly got worse until finally Avast! started picking u p a Trojan. I moved that to the virus chest, but a little while later, it started to pick up a virus/worm that I couldn't move or repair. I scheduled a boot time scan to see if I could catch it that way, but every time I restarted the comp (in normal or safe mode) I got a BSoD. I restarted using the last good setup, and ran the scans. My performance has improved significantly, but some things were picked up in the scans.

Now, I couldn't download Combofix, and I'm not entirely positive that MGtools ran completely (I let it run for 5 hours with no change before I closed it though.)

Your logs are clean but you do have some non-malware things to address.

You are way out of date with your version of SUPERAntiSpyware.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSKDetectorExe] "C:\Program Files\McAfee\SpamKiller\MSKDetct.exe" /uninstall
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
    O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [Power2GoExpress] NA (User 'SYSTEM')
    O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [Power2GoExpress] NA (User 'Default user')
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe

And the below are optional fixes but these should not be loaded at startup.
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BitTorrent DNA] "C:\Program Files\DNA\btdna.exe"
    O4 - Global Startup: BigFix.lnk = C:\Program Files\BigFix\bigfix.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.YOUR-1BC968E400\Local Settings\Temp

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • the new SUPERAntiSpyware log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Everything is running fairly well. Rarely I'll get a popup for some weird finance news or to take a survey, but it mostly seems to happen on Myspace, so I attribute it to that. Firefox has been crashing more often but I don't think that's malware related.
http://www.local-news-online.com/?t202id=12893&t202kw= (that is the news site that keeps randomly popping up)

I tried to delete the files in C:\WINDOWS\Temp
Most went fine, but some of them that weren't from today's date couldn't be deleted. Said they were all in use by another process..
    _avast4_ (mod. 12/15/09)
    fla1FC.tmp (mod. 12/16/09)
    Perflib_perfdata_64.tmp (mod. 12/15/09)
    Perflib_perfdata_634.tmp (mod 12/15/09)

TY for the help so far!!

What "Virus problems" are you referring to? Are you still having them?

Also you need to attach the other requested logs from, Malwarebytes, RootRepeal, amd note that ComboFix is back online so if you still think you have malware problems, run ComboFix too and attach the log.

I'm confused. In your last post you said you just wanted those 2 logs. The virus problems are in the first post, and as I said, it is running much faster thanks to your help.

Sorry about that! Not sure what I was thinking. Must have been thinking of another thread I guess since I working on about 50+ right now.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I was wondering if you could take one more ook at these logs. Mozilla kept randomly opening a new window that had A LOT of new tabs. They all ended up saying 'problem loading page' but they had names with really weird symbols. Also, some of them had a list of some of the files on my computer. ran all the scans again. Combofix said it detected rootkit activity.

In message # 4 I did say to run ComboFix if you were still having problems, and since you ran it now it did remove the cause of your FireFox problems when you ran it. I posted final instructions in message # 6 because in message # 5 and in message # 3 you implied that everything was okay. You said it was working faster and did not directly say anything about still having problems and you had not stated you were having redirection issues with your browser.

If you are not having anymore problems right now then you still should complete my final instructions. If you have any remaining malware problems, please tell me exactly what they are.
