virus scanning, camera memory cards & mp3 players?

I am currently using AVG free 8 and while it does USB flash drives as soon as they are plugged in, I've found it does not scan my digital camera or my mp3 player when they are plugged into a USB port.

AVG has just come out with 8.5 of its free version, but as it is so new, I am in no hurry to install that. I like to let the bugs get worked out first before installing program updates, especially when it comes to a program that has shown some past issues with program updates, as AVG has. So it has been suggested to me that I TRY 8.5, but I have not been told yet whether or not 8.5 will scan other USB devices besides a simple flash drive.

In the event that AVG 8.5 does not scan these other USB devices, do any of you use free AV software that does scan them? Does Avast or Avira scan mp3 players and digital camera memory cards when they are plugged in?

So, folks, when you connect your digital camera or your mp3 players to your computer, does your AV software scan it? If yours does, what AV program are you using?
