Last night Norton caught a virus (W32.Looksky.A@mm) but could not remove it. It also caught some trojans. Right now my CPU is inoperable. For some reason, my CPU downloaded Spy Sheriff and UnSpy PC, and each time I cold re-boot these programs run. I can't close anything and I get all of these Norton messages and other stuff. Also, the task manager has been disabled. I can't even run my normal spy ware stuff (Spy Bot; Ad-aware; XoftSpy)--- cause it won't let me open the files. I can't get work on my CPU until this evening but would appreciate any advice to take back my CPU!

Ok, to the best of my knowledge this is what I did and what happened. I could only run into safe mode (Windows default with no networking since Windows XP home edition would not boot due to a corrupt file). Once in safe mode I uninstalled UnSpy PC but could not uninstall Spy Sheriff. I ran Hijack This but found not files to fix according to the directions. I ran the smitREM.exe program---- the final clean up step seemed to go quick even though it said that it may take a few hours. Now this is where I became a pirate and tried my own stuff to correct the problem..

Still in safe mode I ran XoftSpy which found several major threats (forget the names) and removed them. Then the CPU froze up. I could not open any program files or desktop files or anything in either safe or regular mode. So I decided to boot again in safe mode but went to system restore to restore the system to Jan. 2 (before the virus stuff infected my CPU).

Well, that cleared up the some problems but now I have no Internet access. I will have to call my cable internet provider to help set it up again because it appears under network stuff that something was deleted after the system restore. They can hopefully help me with that problem.

But, there is another problem where when I go to close a Symantec Email Registry alert program the system goes to 'Shutdown.' It shows an alert for shutdown and a timer which reboots the system after about 60 seconds. It says it is empowered by NT Authority or something like that?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!
