virus took hold i think

    Can anyone help please.
    I use sonic software to copy my music files. recently it wont even open now just get a box with a red cross in it when i try to open it.
    Have uninstalled the program and reinstalled no joy.
    I think the path has been changed to what it was but when i try to change it back and click APPLY OK it changes back to what it was.
    Tried running all my anti virus software (Norton) and spyware but it will not go.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    I doubt this has anything to do with malware. Do you have a paid version of the software? If not, perhaps your subscription period expired.

    If you want to rule out that malware is causing you problems then follow ALL the steps below.


    Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.


    After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Yeah thanks for your reply anyway. thought it might be a virus. Yes the version of norton i have all the updates are correct as of now. Maybe i need some help with the registry if the settings have been changed.

    I was not referring to Norton. I was asking if you have a paid version of Sonic software and whether its subscription expired.
