Hey, so I had a virus on my computer that kept showing up on Avast. It was in C:\a.bat, and Avast couldn't/wouldn't delete the virus... Anyways, I rebooted my computer, and now it won't even load up. It gets to the WinXP loading screens and simply stops there.

I've tried the Recovery Console via the WinXP CD, but it just keeps restarting my computer, and every time I get to the black screen, my computer keeps restarting.

So how do I get out of this? Is there some sort of Virus Scanner I can run in MSDOS?

Windows, as a whole will not load up and I can't run any programs...

    Thanks.

Edit note: I cannot follow the steps as Windows will NOT load up. I cannot run or install programs.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Since you cannot boot your PC, we cannot help you check to see if malware was involved. You really need to post in the Software Forum for help getting your PC to boot again and then you could come back here.

You next step my be this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545&sd=tech

And if that does not help, a repair/rebuild may work.

Did you try booting to last know good and also booting in safe mode?
