Virus

    Hi there

    I transfered some files from my flashdrive to my computer and now my computer seems to be infected. Apparently, this virus does 2 things:
    1) It creates applications of 136kb inside folders named after them
    eg. in a folder titled "justin", there would be an application with a similar title. When you click on it, it simply opens a new windows menu linking back to my documents.

    2) It periodically reboots the computer. This has happened very randomly though.

    Additionally, it appears as though all my anti-virus software, mcafee and norton have had their .exe files disabled and are no longer running. I tried downloading and installing another software from the net but it doesnt work as well..

    Ive read the read first and run thing, but i cant even get past the 1st step. Once i run msconfig in the run menu, the computer just reboots itself immediately.

    Please help!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    How many antivirus programs do you have installed? You mentioned McAfee and Norton. Are there others? You must uninstall all but one of them immediately (assuming you can get to Add/Remove programs).

    Questions:
    1. If you boot into safe mode, does your PC still reboot on its own?
    2. Can you run a scan with your antivirus in safe mode?
    3. Can you run the READ ME (as much as possible) all from safe mode?

    Ive tried to reboot my safe mode, but i reach the stop error screen.

    I dont know if this helps but the screen basically says:

    STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF79CA528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

    You did not answer my question about the number of antivirus programs that you have installed and whether you could uninstall all but one.


    Can you run in normal boot mode at all?
    Can you download anything?
    Can you get to System Restore (i'm assuming you have Windows XP, Win ME, or Vista since you did not say what OS you have)?
