    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

As you likely already know is that malware is a massive pest these days and does its level best to hide itself in any number of places, So just a Hijackthis log will not show all the malware that can be on your PC, the full guide of our steps below has a few other logs that show alot of the malware on your PC and where they are located, Sadly your HJT log is only half complete and will not show much,

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

Sorry this has been moved from a previous post... ignore the part at the beginning as this was a previous problem I had. I will follow the above steps now

    Hi

I seem to have contracted a virus

    1. Firstly it was sending me to incorrect webpages when i clicked links

    2. It is now not allowing me to connect to the internet (this is another computer).

Here is the hijack this log and GMER:

Please remember that all logs need to be attachments.

You need to start by moving eveything you put in the below folder to the correct locations. You must download and save tools where we ask you to save them or later instructions will not work or cannot be followed.

    C:\Documents and Settings\paul\Desktop\Scanning
    • MGtools.exe belongs at C:\
    • ComboFix.exe belongs on your Desktop not in a folder named Scanning on your Desktop.
    • RootRepeal should be on your Desktop.
There is nothing in your logs that would indicate any problems with a network connection other than possibly the below proxy setting.

Are the below proxy settings things you have setup yourself?
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = proxy.embc.uk.com:80
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 213.249.155.*;<local>

If this proxy is setup for a work location, you need to remove the use of the proxy when you are not at the work location or you will have no ability to use your browser.

Now let's fix a few things I do see.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunOnce: [Shockwave Updater] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\SHOCKW~1\SWHELP~1.EXE -Update -1100458 -Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
    O18 - Protocol hijack: cf - {9875BFAF-B04D-445E-8A69-BE36838CDE3E}

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Note: There is a possibility that you have a new infection that is going around that infects the atapi.sys file. If you can download the current versions of ComboFix using your working PC and then copy it to the infected PC and run the new version, we may be able to find out. Also the new version of ComboFix could automatically fix problems with atapi.sys
