Virus?

    I am pretty sure I have a virus. I accidentally opened a file (don't no how i did) and it opened up a bat file or something. Here are the things that have happened now.

    I have Nortan Virus and Firewall protection + avg free adition.

    The next time i turned on my computer Nortan never started up like it usually does. I tried to run 'ms conig' so i can check my boot settings and stuff and it never opened. When I ran nortan for a virus check it said 'Internal Program error and never opened'. My Msn messanger doesn't open, when i go to hotmail.com it just displays ' This page cannot be displayed '.

    i can still surf the internet but all virus protection websites displays 'Page cannot be displayed so I cant update my virus protection.'

    Here is what I am doing or have done:

    1) I deleted all my tempory internet files and cookies
    2) I am running my AVG virus protection (no viruses yet)

    That is bout it. Any thoughs?

    Note: As you will see in the below sticky thread, only one antivirus application should be installed!

    Please follow the steps below:


    Download HOSTER and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip Hoster to a convenient folder such as C:\Hoster
    • Run Hoster.exe, click Restore Original Hosts and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
    This first step my already help with your inability to get to certian sites.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.


    After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:
