Hello and thank you for your time.

I seem to have a virus. I cannot cut and paste, drag, close a word file (asks if I want to save, I click yes and nothing happens) my excite home page is blank and Norton is completely disabled and will not open or update. I can't use the search or add remove programs. Links dont work in I. explorer or outlook express
I downloaded Avira anti virus which took 26 hour to scan the registry only and found only 5 warnings.
    It reported that C:\WINNT|system 32|config|SAM.
    |security
    |software
and |system "could not be opened"
I tried to download CC cleaner and registry mechanic but the computer restarts.
Trend micro, panda and bitdefender seize.

This all happened at the same time as Yahoo groups was having trouble with "My wife" virus. coincidence?

here's my hijack this. Any suggestions?

    Thanks again, Cynde

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

You skipped step 3 of the READ & RUN ME. You must use only one antivirus application. Uninstall either Symantec or Antivir PersonalEdition. Since Norton is broken you should uninstall it.

You logs show no real malware issues! However, you can fix the below lines using HijackThis but it will no fi

hi, thanks for the fast reply. I cant uninstall Norton as the add/remove program is not working. Is there any other way I can get rid of it? I removed the files you suggested and ran the hijack this again.

Any thoughts on what I should do now?

    Thanks again, Cynde

Please stop posting logs inline and only post them when requested.

You problems with inability to uninstall do not appear to be malware related issues. They seem more likely to be a problem with user account priviledges or security policies not being set correctly. You may want to ask about this in the Software Forum.

You should try booting in safe mode and logging into the Administrator account and seeing if you can uninstall Norton that way. If not, you should provide the exact reason why. Like are you getting an error message and what does it say exactly.

Thanks, good to know it's not likely a virus. I'll try the software forum.
