    Hello!
I need help with a VirusDoctor infection at minimum and perhaps more. I have done my best to follow the Read & Run me as well as the Vista Cleaning procedures as instructed. However, when I realized that I’d overlooked disabling Windows Defender I could not see how to do it. I did not encounter problems downloading or running the scans but I have no faith in my ability to interpret the results.

The VirusDoctor pop-up showed up first time about a month ago. I immediately closed it, wary, and did not click on links. It happened shortly after doing a Google search. I then did a complete scan with my Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware which only found cookies. VirusDoctor showed up again yesterday morning also shortly after doing a Google search. FYI, the laptop was not in use from 8/31 through 9/17.

I have some concerns about my Webroot program (aside from the fact that it did not detect VirusDoctor). TrendMicro Antivirus was purchased with the laptop and installed by Geek Squad in 2007. When the subscription expired my significant other contacted TrendMicro (phone number on their website) via a phone call to re-subscribe and was sent a link to download a new and improved program which was now called Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware. It was my task to facilitate this download because sadly, I am the more computer literate between us. I had difficulty completely removing the TrendMicro. WebRoot sent two different tools which appeared to finally eliminate all traces of TrendMicro. It does not appear in the programs file. So, I was very surprised that while following all of the sticky instructions disabling and re-enabling Windows Security settings, it lists 2 antivirus programs one of which is TrendMicro. I only re-activated the Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware. I do not see how to remove TrendMicro from the Windows Security page and I am also wondering if we were scammed on this product/purchase.

The SAS scan showed 2 instances of an unknown Trojan. The following 4 scans appeared to find and change things but I am unsure what they were. As near as I can tell, the machine functions well and has not been noticeably impaired by VirusDoctor. I know that you deal with many more raging and incapacitating issues here but I am ill equipped to manage anything big. It took me most of yesterday to follow all offered instructions and do the scans…. age is a negative influence on my short term memory. The scan logs are attached, I hope.

This laptop is used by my significant other for engineering work when he is at home. He also updates his blackberry and has downloaded Rhapsody for music…. I worry about the Rhapsody. I use the computer frequently for job searching, following the news, politics and I read blogs… mainstream sites that I trust. I have occasional family, young and old visitors that mostly check facebook. I have not initiated user accounts because I read that they can greatly slow functionality but I may be misinformed and exposing the laptop to unnecessary risk.

Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer in determining if my machine is clean. Per your sticky suggestions I intend to replace the windows firewall at minimum, and I await your opinion on the Webroot situation.

    Cheers!

Your logs are clean. But Trend Micro is still showing in your add/remove list. Here is a link for uninstalling Trend Micro:
    http://esupport.trendmicro.com/3/Ho...tiVirus-plus-AntiSpyware-from-my-compute.aspx

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
