Vista 32 SP 2 Install Error

Hello All,

Any ideas on how to install vista 32 SP 2 without having to do a fresh install.
I do not have the vista disk.

Are you allowing windows update to get this update? It could be an error, or some other matter with the download.

Try download sp2 manually:

I tried to download it both ways. It still fails with the same error.

I may soon upgrade to windows 7, but I don't like to let things like this go unresolved :confused

 

Do you dual boot?

Tried the install again this morning from safe mode. I received the same error;

E_FAIL(0x80004005)

 

Did you try what the link asked you to do? Do you dual boot?

 

I do not dual boot. I will try the new profile solution when I get home from work...

*Side note: My brother in law has the same issue on a laptop & read somewhere that SP 2 would not install because his recovery partition was to small to contain the files that needed to be extracted.

 

Update...

I tried the SP 2 install in a new administrator account I still went thru the whole process then the install failed with the same error & reverted changes.

Not sure if I'll continue to mess with this. :confused
