    OK
    so I went to defrag my OS drive (600Gb Sata3.0 7200) and noticed that my scheduled defrags were not doing any thing and It had been over 30 days since the last defrag even though its set at 2am ever wednesday (PC on all most all the time) so I went and manually defraged it starting at 11:00pm and checked it at 8:30Am still going.
    So I said forget it and tried defraggler ran from 8:40am till 2:30pm and was frozen at 73% killed the processes and tried again figuring it might be a fluke
    but a few hours later froze at 73%
    SO my questions are
    1.why is my scheduling not working in windows
    2.Why after that many hours it had not finished in windows
    3.Why is defraggler freezing at 73%

    any thoughts are most welcome I am stumped on why this is happening (never had a defrag mess up on me before)

    I also ran ccleaner and deleted any unnecessary files from the hdd so it would have to go through less data (drive is 50% full):confused

    what makes you think its freezeing ? a defrag program can take DAYS on large harddrives

    I did one once that took a week if you can still access dialogs in the program its probably just takeing for ever 600gb is a LARGE amount of data the process

    @samtal
    is that 64 bit compatible? it does not say it is (Requires: Win 2K/03/XP/Vista )
    or does it not matter when defragging?

    @rjc862003
    All animation and file info stops and it become unresponsive and parts of the window turn blank and if i minimize it I can't restore it even after leaving it like that for several minutes and it only happens once it hits 73%.

    A week? Even at A 100% fragmentation that seams excessive for the specs of my PC

    cpu and ram have nothing to-do with defrag speed its the speed of the hard drive a 7200 RpM drive is gonna take some time to defrag its self

    and use iobit smart defrag

    ok,
    That covers length of time
    But that still doesn't explain the 73% freeze on two separate occasions

    @samtal\DomLuc
    I will give that defrager a shot

    @ rjc862003 I will also give iobit a shoot

    after I get done with this prob I will have a round up of benchmarks for all the top defraggers lol (assuming I can get them to work)
