So my brother got a new Dell XPS with Vista and a GeForce 7800GT card. He played WoW for a while, but when he played Half-Life 2, the graphics melted on him and he's had trouble ever since. I hear it's some Direct X 10 and Aero interface problems or something, but he hasn't gotten it to work after that. WoW was fine till the problem, now he can't play anything. Is it just Vista? Whatever shall we do?

I think he's just having bad luck. My friend has played a slew of games on his Inspiron with 7900GS with no hitches, without any of the eye candy toned down.
I kind of want to say reinstall Vista, but there's probably a way around it. I haven't been using Vista too much so I can't really give reliable advice.

Well. After running some benchmarking software and the like, it appears the card was faulty and suffered a meltdown. The compy was still under warranty (heh, only a few days old) so they gave him a new one. Whala!

Vista games and graphic drivers aren't quiet as mature as xp, so lower fps and more problems will be abound. But things will get better.

I have only had a few problems with any games so far with Vista. And most of those games it's sloppy code work on the game manufacturer's part that is to blame, not Vista.

Glad you got the card switched out Prime! You will notice that games are not as snappy in Vista as they are in XP. This is mainly due to poor drivers from video card manufacturers and has nothing to do with Vista its self. Hopefully, nVidia will release a better driver soon. Some of the features of the new DirectX 10 cards can't even be utilized because of lack of driver support.
