Vista and itunes/iphone

Hi everyone, I have a major problem, I have a ASUS laptop Vista Businees OS. I have now bought an Iphone and would love to be able to use its capabalities, however, once i installed itunes and plugged in my iphone the laptop crashed!
I sorted out the crash and reinstalled itunes without the iphone, it worked for a couple of days and then crashed again. I'm too frightened to install itunes again.
It seems to be a driver issue. Can anyone help???
I'm not technical at all so lay terms would be good! LOL
