Vista and ZIP Folders

Occasionally when I am trying unzip a large ZIP folder using Vista's default extractor, explorer.exe crashes, and has to restart. When I google the problem I found that AVG may be the problem, and was wondering if any of the experts here could confirm this? If this is the case what is a better antivirus to use that is still freeware? I am temporarily using WinRAR to unzip folders as this does not cause the crash.

 

Ok, thanks. I will look into TUGZip. Still, shouldnt Microsoft fix this problem, so that we as consumers don't have to rely on Third-Party software?

 

Ok. Slight problem with TUGZip, i installed it and lost the option to create a new zip folder when i right click. So I uninstalled, did a system restore and now its back. Did I do something wrong when installing?

 

In response to Halo, I did think of AVG as the problem as this was suggested when I googled the problem, and the problems they reported mentioned the exact same module that I found in the problem report. I used to use Avast until it decided to block itself updating and made it unusable, so I moved to AVG, this being the first problem I've encountered.

I will continue using WinRAR, since it allows me to uncompress with no problems, and hasnt caused the create new zip folder in the right click menu to vanish as it did with TUGZip. Thanks for all the help!
