vista antivirus 2011

hey guys -should be a no-brainer really, but i require confirmation.

My girlfriend rang me last night and told me she'd just had to pay ~$50 (i don't remember the exact amount) to renew some antivirus software she didn't even know she had, after it had locked her out of most of the programs on her laptop - Turns out it was Vista Antivirus 2011. She sent them an angry email afterwards and everything.

I did some poking around and found various removal methods which i'm equipped for when she comes up to mine later this evening, however a number of things have led her to question whether the fact that she used her card information to pay them is that much of an issue:

-Lloyds TSB (her bank) secure online banking kicked in (although to what avail i have no idea)
-She recieved a reply to her angry email (in record time!) promising a refund in the next two days
-She bought her laptop second hand, and would like to believe that Vista Antivirus 2011 is a legitimate program installed by the previous owner.

Knowing that Vista Antivirus 2011 is a piece of malware, I am simply looking for confirmation before she cancels/changes her card details in the (very vain) hope that it shouldn't be necessary.

so basically: is it likely that the Lloyds secure online banking makes this not a problem? and is it possible that the promised refund is legitimate/that the software may even be a genuine article with a similar name to known malware?

I am well aware that the answer to all of the above is very likely no, but confirmation would lovely.
