Vista Boot Problem

Hi people.

Yesterday when I booted my laptop, I was straight away taken to Startup Repair where I was then told that the system error could not be repaired, was news to me as I didn't know I needed anything fixing.

After snooping around I found my Acer recovery discs that I had made once I purchased the laptop and had to re-install everything from scratch, I downloaded everything I needed like Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, Secunia etc etc.

I saw in another magazine that Comodo Time Machine would save me from having to go through all this hassle again so I attempted to download it.. The system seemed to go into boot mode and a Comodo screen showed up saying it was installing.. after 40 minutes it was still on 89% so I pressed a button and the system restarted and came back with 'Yukon pxe'.. 'cable required'.. 'could not find operating system'.

From here I kept restarting the system and pressed F2 to go into boot options and tried to change boot priority but to no avail.

I have done another recovery which is how I'm managing to write this and after this I will scan with Mcafee and then do an error-check on the drives, not sure this will work as I'm not that clued up when things go wrong.

Does anyone have any advice?

If after you are back to factory specs, using the rescue DVDs you wisely made, take a look at Acronis True Image. In the past I've used Ghost and this. TI, for me, is easier to use.

I create images of the computers either on CDs, DVDs or two external hard drives. When I need to fix something, I grab one of the images and use it to restore. That way, I don't have to get months and months of windows and program updates.
