Vista Clean Install

I just got a new Dell with Vista Home Basic. It came through with some of the usual preloaded junk and I removed it. Everything I have read suggests doing a clean install since everything will be wiped clean and then I can choose what to put on the computer. I can also wipe out the bloat that is saved in the restore point. Is this the best option? I followed the suggestions in the other link and used CC Cleaner, PC Decrapifier, etc but it seems like a clean install is the preferred method.

Would it make that much of a difference in terms of speed? I am worried that if I proceed with a clean install I may get stuck in the process and not no what to do. The comp came with all the disk and driver so I do what is needed.

I think you already have a clean install (minus the crap) and if you use the Dell (restore) disk(s) you'll just reinstall the crap and have wasted your time in cleaning it up in the first place. Wait for others first but that's my opinion.

Are you saying that I will end up with exactly what I have right now following a clean install? I thought I would have the options of not installing many of their programs.

Be wary! Dell have many hidden HDD partitions that include most of their driver support and other crapola which prevents even a new logical partition on your behalf!
Remember that they dont want you to clean install the easy way, they need you to bring it back to the shop!

Just my opinion, that a clean install on a dell is not always what it seems!

nitecrawler tip: flashing the mobo will help!

    Regards ;)

Hi unless you have an original Vista OEM DVD from Dell and not the Dell Vista Restore DVD, you will have no options to not install what Dell bundle with the PC, they get $$££ from software companies for bundleing apps on new builds.

As Augie says, if its the restore dvd then you will just be putting your PC back to factory default, so what you have done now is good in removing all thats not needed.

You don't only need the windows Vista disk, of whatever flavour. You will also need a drivers disk for some of the hardware, unless Dell have put them on your DVD. I would advise anybody to avoid reloading Vista unless they are connected to a GOOD broadband link as there is much too-ing and fro-ing when Vista installs. If you have a questionable link refuse the option to activate during installation when prompted.
