The Quest for the Best Application Compatibility Lists
I am trying to compile the “Best”, regularly updated lists of Compatible Software.

Besides these I have listed below, does anyone have others you refer to often?

    Vista Compatible Blogspot http://vistacompatible.blogspot.com/2007/04/windows-vista-compatible-software.html

    IExBeta List
    http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_RTM_Software_Compatibility_List

Windows Vista Certified List (from Microsoft)
    https://winqual.microsoft.com/member/softwarelogo/certifiedlist.aspx

Works with Vista List (from Microsoft)
    https://winqual.microsoft.com/member/softwarelogo/workswithlist.aspx

Also, can anyone tell me the biggest difference in terms of functionality between being Vista Certified versus Works with Vista?

    Hi MT

Apart from your lists which I use....

KB929427 is always worth reviewing now and again for what software has been added as compatible.

But main one is look at applications System Requirements list for OS compatability or if an application is not listed as working with Vista try it as it may do, what at times does not work for some does for others, likely system specs and other combinations of software installed.

I did start a similar thread ages ago, bit it died. Actually it was when I was considering updating to Vista Home Premium.
Around 1 month ago I installed Vista HP.

Since then I have installed the following programs.
I have not listed the links as most/ nearly all of them are available at Major Geeks of course. :-D

Use this search to find the MG links.

    http://tinyurl.com/39v44r

Simply delete Zone Alarm, and substitute the name of the program you are interested in.
Read the info, at the link, for details of what the program/s do / does. :)

If the search comes up blank (rare), uncheck the MajorGeeks box and select the Web search box, and try again.

Programs I have installed, so far, in Vista HP:-

    Acronis True Image (backup) v10
Advanced Windows Care v2 (v3 released as well, but v2 is simpler to use)
    Belarc Advisor
Cathy (a very small search program that leaves MS efforts in XP and Vista for dead, IMO)
Only snag is that is not an auto-indexer and you should re-index (refresh) as often as you think you need to.
CCleaner (the old favoutite, of course).
    Cleanup! http://www.majorgeeks.com/CleanUp_d4895.html
I have quoted the link in this instance as there are others with a similar name. Make sure you turn up the volume for a laugh when you run it.
ClipDiary. Allows you to save 1000's of your cut and paste entries. Beware it will copy anything you copy and paste, incuding Passwords, Credit card details, etc.
    CWS Shredder
DrTcp (for updating your modem settings)
    Empty Temp Folders v2.8.3
    ERUNT
    Everest Home Edition
    Gadwin PrintScreen
    Incode Solutions (RemoveIt)
    Karen's Directory Printer
    MEDA CD Ripper
    MRU-Blaster
MusicMatch JukeBox (old version, in my case)
    Neutron (Atomic clock synchroniser)
    Opera Browser v27
PrintNow (a really old one from W95 days, still works great. And yes, I do use 2 printscreen programs.
1 is set to full screen output, other is set to a selected rectangle)
    Process Explorer
    Recuva
    SIW (System Information for Windows)
SlickRun (my most Essential program) Does away with all the mess of icons, shortcuts on your front screen. Much faster than using mouse and drop-down menus, etc. I have 100's setup for my use.
TClockEx (shows day and date in single height taskbars, handier than you think ;) )
    WallPaper Master
    Wise Disk Cleaner
    Wise Registry Cleaner
Wizmo (although I can only a part of it to work)

That should keep you going for a while.

A few additional links that may throw up other VISTA compatible programs, from previous MG threads.

These programs will work on Vista, according to PCUtilities #91, pp16-19
Some are not listed on MG as for Vista, but are for Vista according to the above article. Install with your usual backup and Restore point precautions.
Beware some of these links may be to BETA versions.
I haven't tried any of these programs. I just list them as a starting point.
You may also need a version of a .NET program installed as well.

There are times when I am tempted to get a used, but good shape laptop with XP on it so I can have a backup when Vista is in a bad mood.
