I am running vista home premium that came on my Toshiba Satellite. I have had nothing but issues with vista thus far and am growing weary of this OS. I am considering throwing in boot and nuke, whipping this crap from my comp and going back to XP. Can anyone weigh in on this so to help me make the right choice. There are some things that I like about Vista, and I was excited to finally get it when I bought this computer. Should I hold out till a SP2 equivalent comes out like for vista and the bugs are fixed or just go with what I know works. I am really considering just going to MAC since I have heard no bad things about them.

Well, what are your issues with Vista. There may be some help available from users. Going back to XP can be problematic as your hardware might not have any XP drivers written for it. It's a crap shoot. You might also run into warranty issues.

I am just having issue I never had with XP. Since the last update outlook 2007 all but freezes my computer, the only way I can start a saved word doc is to open MS word then go to open doc. If I just open the saved file it tells me the file cannot be found; then if I try again it will open. Vista takes up a lot of CPU to run. I guess mainly the issues are with office 2007, but from what I have read they only exist with vista. After 2k for a computer it should run w/o these issues. I will say, I would much rather fix the issues I am having rather than go back to XP.

Hmm, perhaps you mean alot of RAM to run. I'm sure you are using about %50 RAM just with Vista running. Vista has the philosophy of unused RAM is wasted RAM. It is very good at managing the RAM. If you are using a lot of CPU power, then it's a different story. What does Task Manager say?

EDIT: I know nothing about Outlook.

    Hi

I've got Vista and Office Enterprise 2007 on all three of my PCs and with no issues at all, all been running near 2yrs, so many issues with Vista have been more so with system builders offering too low a spec on laptops mainly and the said OEM PCs being bundled with some much junk that most of the ram is eaten up by this 3rd party junk.

So what model Toshiba do you have?
What security applications do you haev installed? please do name all of them.

Also try this to aid in the removals of alot of junk these PCs come with, and one of my fellow Admins here at Majorgeeks has this great guide http://adrynalyne.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!AB9DE24BE9AF1B9F!303.entry

Have you tried a re-install of Office 2007? I have been running mine fine on Vista Business for a while.

I have had the computer for a while and removed most of the extemporaneous junk. Outlook had been working like a charm till recently. All I know is a few days ago it just started doing this. Every time I log on it says that A data file did not close properly and it is being checked. But even after it says the check is complete it slows down the computer so much that anything and everything gives a program not responding message. Once I close outlook, which takes forever as even the task manager takes forever to run and shutdown outlook once it is running (but of course not responding). Also, I am not sure of the relevance but when outlook is running, since it started doing this anyway, my comp makes a repetitive noise like it is stuck doing the same thing over and over. It is not a bad sound that would make me think there is a mechanical issue and it stops a few minutes after outlook is closed, but it is the same sound each time.

I agree absolutely: most "problems" w/Vista are either lack of RAM, and OEM "add-ons" both of which the business who sell these machines are responsible for...in my opinion, it's about like the malware antivirus2008 etc. which pretends to be your computer's friend, but is really sucking the lifeblood out of it...

And it's why those of us who installed Vista ourselves, usually like it, while those who buy it *preinstalled* don't...I sure wish the all-powerful MS eventually makes these idiots quit loading crap on, as MS is getting blamed for all kinds of crap they don't deserve, and only they have the power to stop it...or hell, maybe they don't care....but MAC's don't have that problem, since they provide their own OS...and would be cutting their own throats by doing something like this...but Vista isn't the culprit here....

So many times I've now seen new computers w/Vista w/only 1/2 a gig of RAM, combined w/all kinds of stupid apps running, with just about every app loading itself in startup, and "calling home" and taking over apps that Vista provides in their OS...

And I use MAIL now, since I like the way it deals w/spam, and my Outlook and Outlook Express, have been put out to pasture...

I'm no ace w/Vista, and didn't want it very much, and had Linux and XPpro on a dual boot I was happy with, and a mac mini as a spare, but I bowed to reality: that most people I know who have problems w/computers, have Vista installed...and now I like it, tho just today I finally figured out how to use Windows Defender to remove *intrenched* logitech apps which were redundant, and weren't found on ccleaner...
btw: adrynalyne page was excellent and useful to me...
