I am running Vista 32 bit on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Recently my computer began freezing. I deducted that it was caused by Outlook 2007 since the problem only seems to occur when it is running. I have it set to startup with windows so every time I start my comp it all but freezes. I tried to go into windows defender to stop the auto startup of outlook but I keep getting the error message "application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba...". I also cannot seem to figure out how to uninstall just outlook or how to uninstall defender so I can try a fresh reinstall as it is not on the program list in the control panel. I would love to simply be able to fix the outlook issue since, until now, I loved it. but if need be it can just go. If anyone has any insight into any of this please let me know. Thanks.

    I would run Office Diagnostics

I have done that and it came up with nothing.

I did some more research on the error you received and it seems that Windows Defender itself is having some issues.

    Give this a shot.

    Hi

Double check that in Services that the Windows Defender service (aka WinDefend ) is Started and its Startup Type is set to Automatic. ( to get to services, click Start and in the Start Search box type services and hit enter )

Windows Defender is built into Vista so doesnt show in add/remove, however does your Office 2007 also not show?

Was this pre-installed by Toshiba, do you have the CD/DVD media for Office 2007?
If Office 2007 is in Add/Remove click to highlight it then at the top click Change and then Add or Remove Features as this will allow you to click Outlook and then click Not Available then Continue to remove it.

But maybe you may need to also continue with some of the suggestions in your other thread here as another 3rd party application could be causing your Outlook freeze.

I tried running the MS program but access was denied. I ran msiexec /uninstall windowsdefender.msi /quiet /log uninstall.log as described but nothing happened. Would this have told me something or had a window (etc)?

Can you log-in as a full admin and run outlook that way?

I can start outlook no problem, it just freezes everything. It was the program removing defender that didn't work. I have tried running outlook as admin though and it had the same result
