I am trying to install a Raid 0 on a ASUS a8n-sli premium MBD. Vista is "supposed" to solve the issue for seperate raid driver discs, but I can't get this to install. I get an error on file ntdl.dll. I have the raid set in the bios. Not an ide raid either. I can build the raid over and over. I have tried different HD's as well. Each hd is 120gb SATA.

I checked on the ASUS website and they have bunk about vista and raid installations / support . They don't even have drivers for Vista for their MBD. Pretty sad, but sad doesn't make the computer work.

I have installed several raids in winxp and other o/s but vista is being a bitch.

I am low level formatting the drives through the raid utility as to get rid of anything that may be lingering before I try it again.

    ANy thoughts on this? \

I may try to install winxp home w/ raid , but I don't think I can upgrade to the vista ultimate from home.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vista does slove the problem but not as you have read tho, as it still needs the drivers installed, but these can now come off alternative media as I mention below.

You still need the RAID drivers for that motherboard raid chipset, but what Vista now does is to allow you to have these drivers on USB Pen, External HD, CD, DVD or floppy.. which is alot more sensible that the old way of having to have them on floppy only.

If your using Silicon Images Raid SATA ports then this is the driver listings ( Vista included )
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/supportsearchresults.aspx?pid=28&cid=3&ctid=2&osid=10& *second download in the list*

    If the Nvida Raid then

    32bit Drivers
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce4_amd_winvista32_15.00.html

    64bit Drivers
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce4_amd_winvista64_15.00.html

Pop them on USB pen or another removable device and when installing Vista and it has a LOAD DRIVER option choose that and follow the prompts to install the Raid Driver.

k thanks... I try this. The prob I am having now, is that I get a stop error on boot. It doesn't even try to start the install process.

I am formatting both the hd's, then rebuild the raid, and see if Vista will start the install process. Thanks for the link. It is silicon raid.

    \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

Going to try 2 different hd's....

is this the first time your installing Vista? if so also check for BIOS updates for your mobo.

How far into the Vista install do you get, a description of the install menu box will do, if you get that far, or is it on copying files that it errors?

You installing 32 or 64bit Vista as the driver for 64bit will be the 5th one down.. sorry should have listed both, I assumed 32bit.

No prob Halo. I appreciate all the help.

I found out why I was getting the error....

The disc was scratched up and dirty. THis was a brand new disc that we sold our customer. I cleaned the disc and then got an error about system resources. Bill is selling dirty discs.

Thnx for your help Halo .
