Vista Security Checklist (can include SpyBot?)

I had to get a new PC, and will do the plunge into using Vista. I referred to the "How to protect yourself from Malware" guide as I have in the past (XP and 2000 systems) to make sure I set it up the best - especially with the unknown (for me) territory of Vista. I plan on installing:

    Firewall: Comodo 3.0.25...
    Anti-Virus: Avast 4.8....
    Anti-Spyware real-time blocking: Comodo BOClean
    CCleaner
    SpywareBlaster

I will turn off Windows' own firewall and "Window Defender for Vista."

    Sound good so far?

Finally, I have always used SpyBot S&D in the past, but I noticed an apparent contradiction in the "How to protect..." guide: at one point it lists Vista in reference to SpyBot with the comment "on Vista Spybot will install a security center service." But later, under the "What do we Recommend" section, when SpyBot is mentioned, it is stated parenthetically "but again, not recommended at this time on Vista."

I saw no previous comment that dissuaded the use of Vista and SpyBot. Am I missing something? Can I use the two together (no, I won't enable TeaTimer). Does the rest of my list sound good?

    Thanks!

    Hi

Yes all those inital ones are fine in Vista and a good selection. As for Spybot, yes also fine but disable the Tea-Timer function or dont install that option in the first place, but with what you have and BOClean you should be ok, also Defender in Vista is much better than that of its XP brother and worth leaving enabled.

I would also install Spywareblaster from the guides suggestions also as its not a running application, but just adds known bad urls, activeX exploits to the blocked lists on both IE and Firefox, so is a good way of prevention, uses no resources just a small footprint of hard drive space and needs in free version manually updating each week.

We have had some users complain of issues with Comodo's Firewall on Vista. Some like it and some do not. You should decide for yourself, but a good second choice would be the PC Tools Firewall Plus <-- make sure you uncheck the options to install Google Toolbar and Threatfire free edition. There's is no sense in installing excess baggage.

Thanks for bring this to our attention. It was just an old line from when the first Vista version of Spybot was out and we were seeing problems. I removed this comment line now since those problems no longer exist even though I don't particularly like the service that is running full time even when Spybot is not used for active protection with Teatimer.

You should be good to go as long as you adhear to the other tips in How to Protect yourself from malware! too.
