vista shutdown

my sister is 75 years old and needs a simple way to shut down vista. it is hard for her to find the shutdown button . is there a easy way to put a shutdown button on the desk top that she could find easly? she plaYS GAMES ON LINE AND CANt find the hidden button to shutdown a new machine has vista home pruimun on it.

sure you can:

On your Desktop, Right-Click then select New then Shortcut
For the type of location type: shutdown -s -t 0

that should do it.

Alternatives are:

Still the traditional Shutdown button as it needs adding back to Start > Shutdown as in the below pic, from its default in many cases "sleep" button.

To do this click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintanence > Power Options > under which ever of the prefered plans are click "change plan setting" > "Change advanced power settings" > then scroll down to "power buttons and lid" and click the + to open up the menu > click the + next to "start menu power button" and in the dropdown choose "shutdown" then click Apply and the Start > Power button is changed from Orange = Sleep to Red = Shutdown

or you can get a Sidebar gadget which mirrors Shutdown/Restart/Lock and this can be placed on the desktop like 8Balls shortcut icon.
