Re: Google Desktop Better Than Visa Sidebar?

I would love to have this side bar. I can't get them to open right.

    Hi

Its possible that one of the gadgets you are using if using some 3rd party ones, is that one is corrupted or not fully working. So try and narrow down which one is causing the problem, close all the gadgets down if you can via hovering over the gadget and if the x and spanner appear click the x to close the gadget, do this with all on the sidebar then using the Sidebar Manager enable one at a time.

Or you can right click the gadget system tray icon ( bottom right by clock ) choose properties and click Restore gadgets installed with Windows which will remove all 3rd party ones and startup only the default ones that came with Vista. ( Also in same menu lists is one to manage and remove non standard gadgets, by using the View List of Running Gadgets button )

    Hi

What if anything did you install software or driver wise before this happened to the sidebar?

May need to re-install JAVA http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html as this can cause issues with some 3rd part gadgets.

another thing to try as some Dynamic Link Library ( DLL ) files maybe un-registered is to re-register some that are linked with the sidebar.

Click the Windows Start Globe, and type CMD in the start search box, when it shows in the list, right click it and choose "Run as Administrator" this is important as to register DLLs you need to be in an elevated command prompt, then at the prompt type or copy and paste these, one by one,

    regsvr32 scrrun.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 msxml3.dll
    regsvr32 atl.dll
    regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
    regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

    then reboot.

Have you McAfee Security Softare installed as this can cause the sidebar to go funny, but fix is just to uninstall McAfee and Reinstall.... has worked for some and is one McAfees support tell folk to do...
